Puerto del Carmen Lanzarote


You will find Puerto del Carmen on the East coast of Lanzarote. Originally one of Lanzarote's tiny fishing villages the port has expanded but still retains it's character and Spanish charm with the harbour at its center. Away from the old town you will find the Playa Grande beach which is wide with golden sand and is the largest to be found on the island, lined with a excellent selection of bars restaurants and shops this sea front strip extends for nearly 6kms. When the sun goes down the resort of Puerto del Carmen really comes to life, there really is something for everyone. The selection of good restaurants is impressive, as well as traditional Spanish cuisine you will find Italian, Irish, some excellent Fish restaurants serving the days local catch, and even an authentic Japanese restaurant.

Night life in Puerto del Carmen is lively with plenty of bars to choose from, some with live music and also several good night clubs.

Location

The villa is located in the residential area of Los Mojones which is above the beaches and resort of Puerto del Carmen. There are local amenities within walking distance in the quaint old town is around a ten to fifteen minute walk downhill from the villa and has a picturesque harbour where you can watch the fishermen bring in their catch or dine in one of the fish restaurants overlooking the sea. The atmosphere in the old town is laid back and friendly, with traditional tapas bars lining the cobbled streets.

Ten minutes further on is the lively main promenade or ‘Avenida’ which runs alongside the beach and has a huge variety of bars, shops, international restaurants and amusements. The award-winning Playa Grande beach is sandy and gently sloping making it popular with families. You can hire parasols and sun-loungers here, or explore some of the other rocky coves which are dotted around the coastline if you would prefer something more private. There are several windsurfing and diving schools in Puerto del Carmen offering equipment hire and lessons, as the coastline offers the perfect conditions for both these sports. Swimming, running and cycling are also popular in resort, with several bike hire companies along the promenade.

The resort offers plenty of opportunities for retail therapy and has a range of excellent shops. Souvenir shops line the Avenida or you can browse an array of local crafts and up-market luxury good at the Biosfera shopping centre.
Also nearby is the incredible National Park of Timanfya, a 50km square area whose landscape has been shaped by past volcanic activity on the island, the most recent eruption being nearly two centuries ago. Various tours are offered in the park, including a camel ride if you are feeling adventurous, and you can enjoy a meal cooked over natural geothermal heat at the El Diablo restaurant.

Approach:The villa is set in private grounds in the Los Mojones area, above the beaches of Puerto del Carmen. The pool terrace is at the rear of the house for privacy.

Ground Floor:Casa Jo Jo offers single-storey accommodation set out in an ‘L’ shape around the pool and terrace. The entrance hall leads to a comfortable open plan living/dining area, furnished with an attractive mix of leather sofas and lighter wooden and cane pieces. A huge window at the rear gives panoramic views of the swimming pool, with patio doors opening from here to a covered terrace terrace. An attractive wooden spiral staircase in the centre of the living room leads to an upper gallery which is arranged as a cosy reading room perfect for relaxation. This whole area is decorated simply with terracotta flooring, white walls hung with pictures and indoor palms in terracotta pots. There is a satellite television (no card), a DVD player and a CD player for your entertainment.

On this level there are two twin bedrooms, each having an en suite shower room. From the entrance hall, one step takes you up to a double bedroom which has a full en suite bathroom with a separate walk in shower and two steps up to circular Jacuzzi bath. This bedroom has direct access onto the terrace. The fourth bedroom has twin beds and the use of a separate shower room with WC and washbasin. The bedrooms are all light and airy, individually furnished and have tiled or wood floors

Two steps down from the entrance hall is a well equipped kitchen which has a microwave, washing machine and dishwasher. There is a door leading conveniently to outside.
Outside:The villa’s 9m x 2.5m swimming pool has ladder steps and is set in extensive sun terracing. Situated behind the house for privacy, the pool terrace has a boundary wall and is flanked by pretty flowering shrubs. Adjacent to the living room is a covered dining area with steps leading down to the pool and there is a built-in barbecue. Some of the bedrooms have patio doors opening to the pool terrace and there are recliners and garden furniture dotted around for dining and relaxing in the sun or in the shade.
